The most important job of a Manager is to get the work done. No one has defined the "How" to get the job done aspect. Hence, different Managers have different styles. Some drive like driving bulls pull the carts, while some use the different Management techniques such as motivation, being part of the team, praise lavishly - criticize miserly, etc....
What a Manager needs to understand is that "It is the team that makes a Manager look good and Bad. Managers need to write this on their forehead before taking on a team. Once this is written all over your head and act likewise, the rest will automatically fall in place".
Treat your Team Members with the same respect that you expect to be treated with...your respect will automatically go higher... just don't expect respect to come from all on day 1.

Success is not forever & Failure is not fatal
This was Don Shula's favourite quote when he was Head - Coach for the Miami Dolphins. It drove a great deal of his behavior during his long and distinguished career as the "winningest" coach in the history of NFL. Don had a 24 hour rule. He allowed himself, his coaches, and his players a maximum of 24 hours to celebrate a Victory or bemoan a defeat. During this time, they were encouraged to experience the thrill of victory or agony of defeat as much as possible. Once the 24 hour window had passed, they put it behind them and focused their energy on preparing for the next opponent. This is a principle worth noting and has helped them achieve.
Don't get a BIG HEAD when you win or get too down in the dumps when you lose. Keep things in perspective - SUCCESS IS NOT FOREVER, & FAILURE ISN"T FATAL.

Anger Management Techniques
It is very often that one gets angry. The state of anger is not so much a concern - the outcome could be. If you often notice, due to the state of anger we are in, we often use words that could offend the others. Most of the times, we then laugh about why we spoke what we spoke. How do we avoid it? The state of anger heats up our body and that causes the mind to act crazy with spilling words that could potentially offend others. I recommend that when you get to that state of anger, stay calm and take a glass of cold water and drink it slowly. By the time you finish the glass, you will be in a better frame of mind to handle the matter without creating any relationship damage or spill of words unnecessarily. This worked well for me... .Try it out and comment if it does / does not work. :-)

1 of the differences between Leadership and Management
Management is common sense: Leadership is common sense with honesty.
The Key to Developing People
The Key to developing people is to catch them doing something right and good. Catching people doing things right is a powerful Management concept. Unfortunately, most leaders have a genius for catching people doing wrong things. Great leaders such as Ken Blanchard always recommend that leaders spend at least an hour a week wandering around their operations catching people doing things right.
But remember, effective praising must be specific. Just walking around saying, "Thanks for everything" is meaningless and loses value. If you say, "Great job", to a poor performer and, "Great job" to a good performer, you sound ridiculous to the poor performer and demotivate the good performer.
Catching people doing things right provides satisfaction and motivates good performance. However, remember to praise immediately, make it specific, and encourage people to keep up the good work. This principle helps Leaders shine even at home. It's a marvelous way to interact and affirm people in your life.

PRINCIPLES IN LIFE
Every individual has got to have his/her own principles in life. Every individual is unique in that aspect. I have seen individuals grow in organizations who have performed... and I have also seen individuals who kiss up to grow up... but guess what? It will show in terms of longevity - because Change is the only constant in life and those who grew having the later principle will find it difficult to SUSTAIN!!
So, be straight, honest and do have ethics in life... not asking everyone to turn into a saint - just my thoughts and principles in life.

PANIC
One should never panic during crisis. For every problem, there is always a solution. Sometimes, the solution may seem unacceptable, but there is still that solution. All you need to do is "Do what is right" and not worry about the rest!!PS: Not applicable to Doctors - cos they save lives. :)

Life is a cycle - what goes around comes around
Life takes you always in two's. Good - Bad; Day - Night; Happiness - Sorrow.
Every life cycle of a person is like the wheel of a cycle / automotive. What goes up has to come down and what goes down has to go up. I have seen this in my own life as well.
